HISTORIC BACKGROUND:
Kings County, New Brunswick, boasts 17 of the province's 68 covered bridges. Built in 1910, the 98-foot long span of the Oldfield Covered Bridge appeared on the 1992 25-cent coin depicting New Brunswick's theme for Canada's 125th anniversary. One might say it was not merely erected, but evolved out of the needs of the local folk who followed the Mill Road and crossed the Smith Creek as they went about their daily tasks.
